DROP-OUT CENTRE
In the areas served by DBAI , there is a high rate of school dropout among children aged 13-18. Many of these children enter the workforce at a young age, seeking employment in poultry farms, textiles and spinning mills, brick kilns, and silver ornament-making, among other industries. These working environments can be dangerous and detrimental to their well-being.
To address this pressing issue, DBAI established Dropout Centers to provide these children with an opportunity to continue their education, ultimately helping to prevent early child marriages, early pregnancies, and child labour. The Dropout Centers focus on preparing the students for their 8th, 10th, 11th, and 12th standard exams, giving them a chance to complete their basic education and pursue further academic or vocational opportunities. There are currently three Dropout Centers in Salem, Rasipuram, and Vennandhur, which also cater to young adults over 18 years old who can benefit from these educational services.
VOCATIONAL TRAINING
Our organisation is dedicated to providing vocational training to youth, enhancing their skills and helping them access employment opportunities. We believe that by providing job-oriented skills, we can empower young individuals and help them secure a better future.
We offer short-term computer skills training to youth who are committed to improving their lives. Additionally, we organise tailoring courses, embroidery designing, and jewellery-making training programs to provide alternative career opportunities. These training programs aim to equip young individuals with the necessary skills to enter the job market and secure a sustainable livelihood.
Moreover, we collaborate with other NGOs to provide skill training in various sectors, such as nursing and catering. By offering these referrals, we aim to create a comprehensive and inclusive platform that caters to the diverse needs of the youth. Our efforts in providing vocational training to youth are an important step towards building a skilled workforce, promoting entrepreneurship, and creating a sustainable future.
YOUTH GROUPS
In an effort to ensure that youth reach their full potential and make meaningful contributions to society, DBAI has established adolescent groups for both boys and girls in the communities they serve. These groups provide a supportive and nurturing environment where young people can learn, grow, and develop essential life skills.
Capacity building and life skills development are key components of these adolescent groups. Through various activities, workshops, and discussions, participants are empowered with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate the challenges they may face in their daily lives. Additionally, career guidance is provided to help youth explore potential career paths and make informed decisions about their future.
The adolescent groups also address critical social issues, such as menstrual hygiene, child marriage, sexual abuse, and child labor. By focusing on these topics, DBAI fosters awareness and understanding among the youth, helping them recognize the importance of addressing these concerns within their communities.
Furthermore, the youth participating in these groups are encouraged to become ambassadors who educate their peers on these vital subjects. This peer-to-peer approach not only amplifies the impact of the program but also instil a sense of responsibility and leadership among the participants.
Training for Competitive Exams
Recognizing that youth from low-income rural and urban areas often face limited opportunities to secure government positions, DBAI has taken the initiative to establish a Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) Centre specifically for underprivileged youths. This centre aims to level the playing field and provide professional training to aspiring civil servants from marginalised communities.
Launched in 2020, the Salem Youth Empowerment Study Center (sYESc) at Mulluvadi Gate serves as a dedicated space for these young individuals to receive the guidance and support they need to excel in their pursuit of civil service careers. The centre offers tailored training programs, exam preparation materials, and mentorship from experienced professionals, ensuring that participants are well-equipped to succeed in the competitive world of civil services examinations.
By providing this targeted support to underprivileged youth, DBAI is helping to bridge the gap in opportunities and empower these individuals to reach their full potential. The sYESc initiative not only promotes social mobility but also contributes to a more inclusive and diverse civil service that better represents the communities it serves.
